The Out-of-Door Academy seeks a Dean of the Business School to join a faculty that is committed to providing a rigorous, relevant, and student-centered learning experience for every student we serve. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching the whole child and will understand the value of contributing to the broader life of the school community, including advising, coaching, and leading extra-curricular activities.
The Dean of the Business School’s primary responsibilities will include the development of the curriculum, programming, growth, and leadership of the School of Business to foster an environment where every Out-of-Door Academy graduate will have a fundamental, working knowledge of the principles of financial literacy and an understanding of how to apply them to their personal lives. The Dean will also serve as the catalyst to carry forward the mission of the Business School and to build and cultivate effective partnerships with surrounding businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Dean of the Business School will be responsible for the following:
Develop, create and manage the curriculum and programming of the Business School to ensure that student learning goals, outcomes, and objectives are met.
Guide the strategic development, implementation and evaluation of the Business School's academic programs including the development of a summer institute and student led businesses.
Promote a learning environment that supports creativity, innovation, collaboration, and student-centered learning.
Development of relationships and strategic partnerships between the Business School and the Sarasota community.
Foster the growth and enhancement of Business School programming by enlisting the support of businesses, foundations, grants, and partnerships.
Oversee the Business School’s budget and resource allocation.
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
A bachelor’s degree is required. An MBA or graduate degree in a related field is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of entrepreneurial/business experience is preferred.
Teaching experience, ideally in an independent school, college or university setting is required.
An educator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with a clear commitment to teaching, learning, and the pursuit of academic excellence.
A strong working knowledge of current and evolving trends in business and the global economy.
An understanding and appreciation for the risks, opportunities, and challenges that are unique to the world of entrepreneurship.
An understanding and appreciation for the importance of social entrepreneurship and instilling students with a predisposition to give back to the communities where they live and work.
A demonstrated record of fiscal responsibility and a high level of financial acumen.
An experienced leader who is a strategic thinker, problem solver, and program builder.
Experience developing and implementing an organizational vision and the ability to build consensus around the collective pursuit of that vision.
Proficient with technology including Word, Excel and the Google drive platform.
An honest person who will live the school’s values and who effectively blends candor, care, and empathy in dealing with others, and whose style is rooted in honesty, transparency and collaboration.

Additional Salary Information: This is a 12-month full-time exempt position. Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Out-of-Door was founded on Siesta Key in 1924 to serve students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1996, a second campus in the Lakewood Ranch area of Sarasota was acquired to accommodate ...the addition of an upper school. Over the past ten years, the school has experienced steady and impressive enrollment growth from 550 to 745 students. Both campuses have evolved and developed to meet the needs of a growing enrollment as well as to enhance and enrich the experience of every student at ODA. Today, the five-acre Siesta Key campus is home to the Lower School (PK-5), and the 90-acre Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch houses both the Middle and Upper Schools. Facilities include interactive technology in every classroom, a fine and performing arts center with a black box theater, a student and STEM Center, a competition gymnasium with a wellness center, a field house, a lighted stadium, tennis courts and a practice complex. A new Middle School campus is currently under construction with an expected completion date of August, 2020.
