Essential Functions:

General

• Must demonstrate and support the School’s Mission.
• Must have the ability to get along with and deal effectively with all school personnel and school families, as well as the larger business and educational community.

• Maintain highest level of confidentiality in all aspects of the position and within the community.
• As a member of the SES team, perform all other duties as requested by the Head of School.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Head of Lower School (HOLS) to onboard new faulty by providing and planning support for new teachers in Lower School with regular check-in meetings to maintain retention.
• Support 5^th grade Team Lead and Division Heads in the coordination of 5^th to 6^th grade transition meetings.
• Assist in maintaining discipline, administer the conduct code/module, and provide weekly reports to constituents.
• Support and participate in meetings among teachers, parents, and students as requested or necessary.
• Collaborate with the HOLS to support the faculty evaluation process and help set goals for teacher professional development.
• Collaborate with HOLS to oversee Lower School implementation of curriculum, including evaluating, organizing, documenting, and communicating.
• Work with HOLS to create faculty and student schedules.
• Keep abreast of recent educational research.
• Coordinate with tech team to ensure grading plans are accurate and up to date for progress reporting.
• Assist the HOLS in maintaining good lines of communication and an appropriate balance among the School’s constituencies, including serving as the primary liaison to the Lower School.
• Ensure appropriate communication with parents through monthly letters, grade-level presentations, announcements, and reminders as needed.
• Create opportunities for family involvement and engagement through strategic activities and parent education sessions.
• Observe, mentor, and evaluate faculty while providing a model for positive leadership and continual reflection and evolution.
• Work collaboratively with technology team and specialists to support educational technology initiatives and dynamic needs in the Lower School.
• Support the admission team with file reading of incoming applicants.
• Assume primary responsibility for Lower School operations and personnel in the absence of the HOLS.
• Collaborate with the HOLS to identify the best-qualified teaching candidates to fill Lower School vacancies for hiring recommendations.
• Annually collaborate with and support the HOLS to revise the student handbook and curriculum guide.
• Support policies and procedures implemented by the Head of School and the HOLS.
• Perform other duties as necessary or assigned by the HOLS in support of the Lower School and its leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree; master’s degree or higher preferred.
• Minimum of five years of teaching in an elementary classroom, including a strong understanding of life and work in an independent school community, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of three years of administrative and/or leadership experience at the elementary level.
• Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Impressive diplomatic and negotiating skills.
• Strategic and long-range institutional vision.
• Strong computer skills.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Work primarily in a traditional, climate-controlled office environment.
• Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat.
