THE OPPORTUNITY Riverside Presbyterian Day School (RPDS), an independent, co-educational elementary (PreK 3 - 6th) day school and Riverside Presbyterian Church (RPC), a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation, located on the same campus in Jacksonville, Florida are conducting a search for a Director of Facilities starting as soon as possible. The Director of Facilities will report directly to the School and Church leadership (Head of School and Senior Pastor) and collaborate closely with the School and Church’s administration and leadership teams. The Director of Facilities is responsible for the care, maintenance, and security of our shared campus’s physical plant. This role includes oversight, scheduling and staffing of the facilities departments at both RPDS and RPC, management of maintenance requests, scheduling of preventative maintenance, and inspections of the buildings and grounds to ensure uninterrupted functioning and compliance, attention to capital projects in coordination with the School and Church’s CFOs, and supervision of campus security. Success in this role will require the ability to balance daily work requests, frequent event set-up requests, long-term projects, and unexpected emergencies. A strong working relationship with school and church leadership is crucial. Evenings and weekends are sometimes required to meet the needs of the Riverside community. This is a twelve-month full-time exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES ? Establish and maintain a positive, supportive, and productive working environment ? Ensure facilities are clean and spaces are prepared for day-to-day events as well as special events and services. ? Develop and manage department schedules to ensure appropriate staffing and completion of all duties and maintenance requests.
? Review completion times of work orders with staff to effectively manage the process and ensure operational efficiency. ? Conduct weekly staff meetings within the department to ensure optimal performance. Participate in the Church’s weekly all-staff meetings. ? Oversee campus wide inventory of supplies and equipment needed for daily operations. ? Coordinate inventory controls and management around disposables (paper products, etc.) to ensure proper supplies are on-hand and re-orders are cost effective and within budget. ? Manage ground maintenance of both the School and Church to ensure the property is clear of any unsightly accumulation of trash and debris. ? Partner with School CFO and Church Property and Maintenance Committee to solicit bids, evaluate proposals, and recommend outside contractors as necessary for facility, grounds, and maintenance tasks. ? Supervise the work of outside contractors, including the School’s contracted cleaning company, to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks, as well as compliance with contractual agreements, safety standards, and School/Church policies and procedures. ? Collaborate with CFOs to develop strategies for addressing deferred maintenance and other replacement projects. ? Act as a mentor to all direct reports so they may grow in skill and understanding of their role and responsibilities. ? Conduct routine inspections of all campus facilities for maintenance and custodial needs. ? Schedule, implement, and manage a preventive maintenance program for all machinery and equipment. ? Develop detailed holiday and summer work plans to maximize facilities and maintenance updates when students and church members are not on campus. ? Respond promptly, confidently, and efficiently to campus emergencies. ? Ensure timely completion of regular facility assessments and develop a priority list for buildings and grounds maintenance, including the preparation of cost estimates. ? Work in collaboration with School and Church CFOs to build and manage an annual budget for plant operations, maintenance, and capital improvements for both RPDS and RPC. ? Oversee campus security, including outside security officers, security cameras, and access control systems. Coordinate any needs or updates with the school’s Director of Technology and the Church’s Director of Communications and Technology. ? Serve as contact for security monitoring companies. Issue keys and pass cards and maintain associated records. ? Collaborate and plan with Church and School Administration in crisis planning, fire drills, lockdown and evacuation drills. ? Assist with the interviewing and selection of department personnel.
? Must be present and/or have staffing in place for after-hours programming and events. ? Maintain and properly store school golf carts. ? Create and maintain a plan for campus safety in advance of inclement weather. ? Perform other duties as assigned by School or Church Management.
QUALIFICATIONS ? Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and commitment to the ministries of his Church. ? Strong management, communication, and interpersonal skills. ? Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work in collaboration with others to complete tasks. ? Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent job-related experience, with a minimum of 5 years of full-time professional experience as a facilities manager. ? Extensive background in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, custodial care, and related infrastructure consistent with an independent school. ? Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the operations and maintenance of school facilities. ? Proven success developing and balancing an annual budget. ? Experience with cost estimation of remodeling and facilities improvement projects. ? Experience designing and implementing preventative maintenance programs. ? Knowledge of building management systems, including HVAC and fire alarm controls. ? Proficient with technology, including spreadsheets, databases, inventory and project management software. ? Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. ? Previous experience with large capital projects is a plus. ? Must clear Level II Background Screening through DCF and FDLE.
