The Okeechobee County School Board has begun the search for their next Superintendent of Schools. While serving successfully as superintendent for the last 13 years, the outgoing superintendent’s retirement culminates a distinguished career of 35 years with the Okeechobee County School Board. Okeechobee County, located in south central Florida, is approximately 90 miles south of Orlando and 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The City of Okeechobee is the only incorporated area within Okeechobee County. The city has approximately 6,000 residents and an additional 34,000 people live in the county. Agriculture, including dairy farming and beef cattle ranching, is the leading private sector industries followed by tourism. As the largest employer in Okeechobee County, the school distric
