The Benjamin School seeks a dynamic, experienced, and student-centered Part-Time Dance Coach/Instructor to lead and grow our Upper School (Grades 9–12) dance program. This position is ideal for an energetic educator passionate about developing young dancers across multiple styles and skill levels, who thrives in both group instruction and individualized coaching. With world-class dance facilities and performance spaces, this opportunity allows the right candidate to strengthen and modernize an established program while preparing students for both performance and competition. The successful candidate, working primarily after school, will cultivate a supportive, high-energy environment that inspires students to grow artistically, technically, and personally. The ideal candidate brings experience in dance team choreography, performance preparation, and competition, and demonstrates the ability to mentor high school students in leadership, accountability, and teamwork. Beyond technical expertise as a choreographer and dancer, the successful candidate is a thoughtful educator who enjoys working with adolescents and understands how dance functions within a broader arts curriculum. The instructor will also be responsible for maintaining efficient, well-structured practices that maximize productivity while respecting broader academic and other extracurricular commitments. The role includes after school instruction and rehearsals, along with additional performances and program?related commitments scheduled as needed throughout the academic year.
Position Requirements > Plan and lead structured in-school classes and after-school dance team practices at varying skill levels for Grades 9–12. > Choreograph and stage dance team routines for athletic events, school performances, competitions, and spring musicals. > Ensure choreography remains current, varied, and reflective of evolving dance team styles and standards. > Mentor and develop team and student leaders, empowering them to take active roles in maintaining and refining choreography and supporting younger team members. > Differentiate instruction to support beginners while challenging advanced dancers. > Organize and oversee participation in regional dance competitions, including occasional weekend travel. > Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and off-campus events. > Foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture centered on respect, commitment, and school spirit. > Communicate effectively with students, families, and school administrators. > Maintain organized schedules, rehearsal plans, music selections, and competition logistics. > Build connections with the local dance community and periodically integrate guest artists, workshops, or collaborative opportunities into the program. > Collaborate with colleagues in Theatre, Music, and the broader Performing Arts Department to support interdisciplinary performances and creative opportunities for students.
Qualifications Desired > Demonstrated experience teaching multiple dance styles to high school or competitive dance teams. > Ability to work with dancers at a range of skill levels. > Strong choreography skills and performance preparation experience. > Candidates with professional experience in performance, choreography, or related work with a dance company are strongly preferred. > Experience organizing or accompanying student groups to competitions preferred. > Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. > Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate and inspire adolescents. > Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to balance group leadership with individualized mentorship. > Familiarity with the local dance culture and professional community preferred.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and expand a vibrant Upper School dance program while mentoring students as they develop both technically and artistically. Physical and Work Requirements: > Ability to lift, carry and move equipment such as mats, speakers and props up to 25 lbs. > Ability to bend, kneel, stretch, reach overhead and transition between standing and floor positions repeatedly. > Sufficient core strength, balance and flexibility to demonstrate movements safely. > Capacity to remain physically active for extended periods, including dancing, walking, standing and demonstrating choreography while teaching multiple classes on a daily basis. > Travel required for events and dance competitions.
